What Leaders Say

Mike has worked with organizations across aerospace, defense, healthcare, and technology to strengthen leadership and prevent failure.

Mr. Michael Ciannilli gave a very stellar presentation! He was very frank, humble, unapologetic, and worked closely with this tragedy. He was one of Columbia’s Test Directors, I consider him to be a survivor of one our Nation’s darkest moments in our Space history (beside Apollo1, Challenger) the loss of Columbia and her crew 16 minutes from home. He lived the tragedy up close and personal. He oversaw the recovery of Columbia and her Crew. What I admire about him is that Instead of living with a nightmare and caving to it, he has turned it into an educational experience for all of us who work to save lives. I commend him for that.

Senior Vice President Lockheed Martin

Just wanted to ping and say thank you for the presentation yesterday. Always an honor to hear that story from you. Looking forward to catching up soon!

-Kiko VP, SpaceX

This letter is in appreciation of your enduring efforts for the advancement of safety and reliability in human spaceflight. I, along with several of my Boeing CCTS Program teammates, recently had the opportunity to tour hear you so eloquently speak. The experience had a profound impact on me and my colleagues. It was a sobering reminder of the importance of our Mission and the responsibility we have to our Nation and, in particular, to the astronauts who entrust their lives to us by flying the spaceships we design and build. Your efforts and continued support are greatly appreciated,

Mauricio E. Peña, Ph.D. Commercial Crew Program Safety, Reliability, and Quality Leader, Boeing Defense, Space, and Security

Just like to say thanks again for joining our show yesterday. You really do a fantastic job on camera. It was good for me to reflect on the importance of finding the right talent to deliver to our viewership. My boss, Albert, was so impressed. If possible, I would like see if I can arrange to do a larger feature with you. We can support whatever your schedule dictates.

Thank You for sharing your very personal experience, your relationship with the Columbia crew, the impact of the accident, subsequent response activities, and lessons learned is a poignant way to convey this important message to our entire workforce. The care with which you convey your personal story, and those of the crew members, resonates especially well with younger members of our workforce who may not have experienced these tragedies—this is critical in making sure we never forget. We appreciate your efforts and we look forward to welcoming you to Langley in the future to help carry forward this important work.

Clayton P. Turner Director, NASA Langley Research Center

I am the CEO of a very large multinational entertainment corporation. But even with that position, if I was ever to share so freely and transparently, speaking from the heart, if you will, as you have done today for our senior executive leadership team in your speech…simply put, I would likely be fired. We don’t even like to acknowledge mosquito bites in the competitive world in which we operate. Honestly, most of us, in positions like mine just can’t do that. Period! So please be aware of the very unique position that you are in and together with your talent to communicate, you have the ability to truly impact the lives of so many out there for the better. I just want you to know that.

CEO Entertainment and Theme Parks

On behalf of the whole of Defence - thank you. That was the most amazing session. We have had so many comments from colleagues saying thank you and how insightful and thought provoking the conversation was. I wish we'd had at least another hour to hear from you. I can't thank you enough for giving up your time to share your reflections. As well as being helpful for our wider Defence colleagues, the conversation will also shape the work we are doing directly - to ensure we apply your thinking to our own LFE offer within Defence.

Thanks again for an excellent presentation last Thursday. The presentation should be mandatory for everyone on the Orion program. It really helps one realize how important the small details are and how keeping a dialogue going and asking questions may keep a disaster from occurring.

David Project Orion, Flight Software, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company-Denver

Excellent performance with our hosts, LIVE ON-AIR, with so very little notice given to you beforehand. Thank you for knocking it out of the park tonight! This information was so valuable to better understanding the interaction weather plays with inducing potential disaster. It presented such useful information, while eliciting the emotion…and immediately began generating very positive feedback from our viewers as soon as the segment was over.
